Who knows much about Luxembourg? I certainly didn’t even though I have traveled through it. This is an excellent reference for anyone of Luxembourg or even Western European descent to check out if they have an “American Aunt”. As a non-Luxembourger, some of the facts can get too detailed, but I enjoyed the stories of these brides of World War 1 who married and then came to America. There are some poignant stories hidden behind the statistics that Gardini shares and it boosted my interest in learning more about this era in European History. He also gives an overview of the war in this country and the sacrifices made. I also recommend Luxembourg on My Mind for a fuller picture of this small Duchy that was a ‘carpet’ for the Germans during both wars. I got a sense of a strong, determined group of people with ethics that helped them to get through the occupations of the worst wars in our history. Claudia Scott
